What are the Local Cricket Leagues in England?

The local cricket leagues in England are made up of eighteen professional county clubs. One of these being in Wales, that of Glamorgan. The local cricket clubs represent their own counties. The English cricket league has always depended on funds given from the England and Wales Cricket Board. When looking to attend a cricket game, understand that they start in April and end in September. If you are hoping for a thrilling and entertaining match in good weather, then try June. Summer is always the best time for cricket.

So Who are These Counties?

These counties are named after historical places in England and are as follows:

These counties all have competed in different leagues in England, and the name of the club normally follows the county’s name, for example, Lancashire County Cricket Club. Several professional players have started in the province of Lancashire. One of the great derby’s is Lancashire vs Yorkshire; both counties have always enjoyed the derby.

These known local derbies are always great games to attend, the crowd’s atmosphere is always electric. You have a number of these derbies, for instance, the battle of London, which is Middlesex vs Surrey, then you have the South Coast special which is Hampshire vs Sussex. Then, you have the West Midlands derby which is Warwickshire vs Worcester, the West Country derby, Somerset vs Gloucestershire, the East Midlands derby, Notts vs Derbyshire and finally the North derby which is between Yorkshire and Durham.
