It is the ECB’s policy that there should be no distinction drawn between ‘performance enhancing’ and ‘recreational’ drugs. Use of or distribution of illegal drugs by players or team officials is a breach of the ECB Code of Conduct.
Anyone in breach of this Code of Conduct is likely to suffer very serious penalties including being banned from playing for very long periods.
Players will not be permitted to take part in a cricket match whilst under the influence of alcohol that is obviously impairing their ability.
Umpires can immediately suspend such a player from taking part in a match if necessary.
Captains and Clubs must remember that they are responsible for the conduct of all their players, spectators etc in accordance with the Code of Conduct.
