The T20 competition has been devastated by the weather and a few concessions. Only 5 of the scheduled 21 fixtures have been completed. The Management Board had to consider whether or not to treat a concession as a withdrawal from the competition and if not what points and scores to award. In these extra-ordinary circumstances the Management Board have decided to delay the Semi-finals by one week and to re-arrange 4 fixtures which were previously abandoned in order to achieve a reasonable competition. These 4 fixtures were considered to be key to deciding the Group winners and will in effect become play-offs to decide 4 of the Group winners.
Therefore the following Group play-off should take place on Tuesday 5th July with semis on Tuesday 12th July.
Group play-offs must achieve a result on the day. Overs may be reduced by mutual agreement but only prior to the start of the game. In event of a tie team losing fewest wickets shall be declared the winner. If no result is achieved then a bowl-off should take place if conditions allow; otherwise a winner must be decided by toss of coin.
Group A play-off - Mount v Augustinians
Group B play-off - Almondburians v Holmbridge
Group C play-off - Horbury Bridge v Nortonthorpe
Group D play-off - Green Moor v Higham
Following a couple of queries concerning the statement about the T20 competition. The Management Board (who had already treated Cartworth Moor’s concession of their first 2 group games as a withdrawal from the competition) would like to make it clear that they decided that all concessions should be treated similarly (partly because of the difficulty in awarding a result in terms of runs/wkt average). Hence the records of Calder Grove, Flockton and Birchencliffe have been purged from the competition. In terms of Group B and C the purging of concessions records leaves 2 teams in each Group and so it was decided that the replaying of the originally abandoned game on the original ground would achieve a winner – as stated this game would in effect be a play-off.
The choice of the term “play-off” was perhaps unfortunate because it was intended that these key games be replayed but still within the original Group (table) context.
This is particularly relevant in Group C where there key game (Horbury Bridge v Nortonthorpe) was requested to be replayed because Horbury Bridge had not played a game (following the purge of their game against Flockton); however, this will not be a straight knock out, the result will be added to the Group table.
In Group A the situation that Augustinians game against Birchencliffe had been purged was overlooked and as such the Group A game Mount v Augustinians should also be replayed on Tuesday 5th July with the result being added to the Group table whose current standing can be seen by clicking here.
